Bedminster Pharmacy
310studio were appointed to fit out the commercial unit within their larger mixed use project at 153 - 155 East Street for the building owner, for the purpose of accommodating a new home for their own business, the storied and much loved Bedminster Pharmacy.
The proposals reconfigured the ground floor layout to create a more practical, accessible and modern pharmacy. Careful analysis was undertaken of the former pharmacy layout in their previous location, along with further analysis of pharmacy design both within the UK and further afield in France, Spain and Germany to establish contemporary best practice.
Great consideration was also given to the shopfront which sought to seize the opportunity to invest a sense of Victorian quality back into East Street befitting the Conservation Area in which it sits. With its carefully articulated frontage, recessed entrance, concealed security shutter and glazed tile detailing, the scheme will hopefully inspiring other future developments and commercial ventures to improve the civic landscape of the very handsome stock along East Street.
Towards the end of the build, the artist Inkie was commissioned to paint the security shutter with a civic message that resonates with the mission of the Pharmacy - ❤️NHS Community
The resultant design, built by Mucha Construction in close collaboration with 310studio, has realised a valuable and beautiful community resource that is a warm and welcoming workplace and enhances the appearance of both the building and the local area.
