Brightbow Rear Studio
Brightbow Workspace is a co-working space that is owned, part - occupied and run by 310studio in Bedminster, Bristol. The workspace takes its name from Brightbow Bridge, a long-lost, 15th Century crossing point close to the site over the now subterranean Malago River.
The new rear studio is phase 2 of a 3-phase development plan for the workspace that has been carefully developed by the practice and undertaken in a way that the practice can manage and programme alongside its commercial undertakings.
The design is a vehicle for exploration of ideas around performance, materials and lighting that are sometimes harder to realise in commercial practice.
The building is almost entirely recyclable, features no plasterboard or membranes within its walls, and is of timber frame construction. The ground floor insulation is Cork, the walls are wood fibre, the external cladding is ceramic tile on Econic board, solar panels on the south facing roof power the underfloor heating and an MVHR ensures fresh air circulation throughout.
The project is located on Bedminster Parade in Bristol. Bedminster is a borough to the south of Central Bristol and is among the 10% most deprived areas in the UK. However, with a spate of creative businesses and studios establishing in the area in recent years and numerous festivals such as the Upfest Street Art festival helping to establish a powerful presence in the area, a palpable sense of civic pride is now returning and it’s a wonderful place to both live and work!
